Here in Tenerife the weather is hotting up and it seems
that everybody has caught onto carnival fever. The start of March welcomed the best
and most spectacular carnival on the island in the capital Santa Cruz. Every
year hundreds of thousands of people flock to the streets to enjoy the colours,
rhythm and luxuries of these fiestas.
As carnival fever takes over the island, there are many more
replica carnivals all over the many towns so you can share the experience, throughout the month. The theme of the
carnival changes each year and differs to each carnival that you attend, the
idea is to get your thinking caps on and pull out your fancy dress outfits. Reusing your costume is a big no no, you have
to dress to impress!
Santa Cruz which is known as the most 'Brazilian', this year embraced all of our inner childhoods and went
with a ‘cartoon’ theme. Being the last minute person I am, I didn’t decide to
go until the day before so I had to do some DIY costume ideas. After traipsing
round a few shops here and not getting any inspiration from the fancy dress
costumes (out here these is not exactly masses of choice either) I thought I’d
have to make it all about the accessories!
I opted for one of my favourite spotty mad cartoons ‘Minnie
Mouse’ her cute and girly style would be quite simple and easy to replicate
(well I hoped). I knew with the minimal outfit choices here, hers I could work on her style and make it work.
So instead of a spotty dress I opted for a plain strapless LDB
that I could team some fab accessories with and still look the part. The most iconic part of
my outfit that I knew I couldn’t dress as Minnie without is her famous red and
white spotty ears. To match the ears I wore some black and red spotty socks and
now I was beginning to look like Minnie herself.
After major debate on what to do with my hair, I opted for a
high ‘pineapple’ style pony tail which really worked well with the ears. I also
added some killer new shoe boots which dressed up the outfit (but new shoes
were a rookie mistake, on my feet for hours).
All that was left then was the face. I did normal my makeup
that I wear when I am going out. I did less around the eyes as I did not want
any heavy makeup I wanted to a more natural and girly vibe to add to my outfit.
I did put eyelashes on however, but I used Eyelures natural wear lashes so they
would not add too much drama to my eyes. I also added a bow around my neck and gloves but after some serious thoughts-I felt more like a playboy bunny than cute Minnie Mouse I ditched the gloves and the bow tie didn't look too bad. All that was left was the black
painted nose and I was ready to go.
The carnival near to my town comes next week and the theme
is ‘1980’s’ I’ll be sure to take you all back and reminisce on all the fab outfits I'll keep you updated on my outfit and reasons for
choice. Keep your eyes peeled guys.
